About
Verity Ure-Jones is a portrait and figurative painter based in London who works primarily in oil paint and pastels on wood panel and paper.
Verity is interested in exploring themes of intimacy, contemplation, longing and barriers. Casting reflections and questions onto the viewer invites a shared moment of emotion as Verity is fascinated with human connection and what it means simply to present a physical body to a strange and harsh world.
Verity’s signature technique of focusing on line within the human form explores the subtleties between illustration and fine art painting. She is interested in finding the vulnerability in each sitter and fleshing out the untold stories unique to them.
Her main sources of inspiration include Austrian Secessionist artists Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt as well as Alice Neel, Toulouse-Lautrec, Kathy Kollowitz and John Singer Sergant. She studied Visual Art and Design at The Brit School and has been taking on commissions since 2023.
